Jonathan Henderson, M.A. is a researcher, program manager, lecturer, facilitator, and scholar- activist that believes in the power of critical agency development. Currently based in Los Angeles, California, Jonathan has worked since 2011 in support of underserved communities, and since 2014 has worked in supervisory capacities where he has designed, coordinated, and assessed programs focused on retention and student success at the K – college levels.
One great example of this was during his service as Site Coordinator for Read Lead, a summer initiative dedicated to promoting literacy and leadership opportunities for youth and young adults in underserved communities. During that six-week period Jonathan designed and coordinated 5 parent workshops, 10 student success workshops, 5 field-trip events and 1 culmination ceremony all while supervising the instruction of 50 middle school and high school aged students. The students achieved some of the highest literacy scores in the nation as a result of their participation that summer (based on pre-and post-literacy assessments).
Currently, Jonathan serves as the founding Project Coordinator for The Rose Black Resource Center, a brand new affinity center based at California State University Dominguez Hills that works to foster retention, graduation and success among Black students. While serving in this position, Jonathan designed and implemented an IRB sanctioned, university-wide mixed methods study that identified and assessed the needs of Black undergraduate students at California State University Dominguez Hills.
This allowed for him to provide the foundation for the centers mission, vision, outcomes and organizational structure. For his excellent service, Jonathan was featured on the CSU Chancellor’s website. Jonathan was also featured in a documentary entitled If These Halls Could Talk facilitated by Lee Mun Wah, the world-renowned and critically acclaimed diversity facilitator and director of the documentary The Color of Fear.
